In Memoriam: Peter Abrahams

NCIS is sad to report that Peter K. ABRAHAMS of Portland, Oregon passed away unexpectedly on March 4th, 2018, aged 62, in Los Angeles. Peter was born March 19th, 1955, in Los Angeles, and graduated Reed College in 1977. An avid astronomer, woodworker, and independent scholar, Peter devoted much of his life to researching and writing about the history of telescopes and binoculars.
He was a past president of both the Antique Telescope Society and the Rose City Astronomers, and an active member of Sigma Xi, the American Astronomical Society, Scientific Instrument Commission, Zeiss Historica, and many others; he was an active member of NCIS until 2012. He exemplified kindness and thoughtfulness throughout his life, and he leaves a legacy of scholarly works and art. Above all else, he found wonder and beauty in the world. He is profoundly missed, but with us always. A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday April 29th at 4:00-6:00 pm at Leach Botanical Garden, 6704 SE 122nd Ave, Portland, OR 97236.
The most comprehensive collection of Peter’s research resides at his website, which his daughter Katie plans to keep online: http://www.europa.com/~telscope/binotele.htm
